What do you think of the Marmite shoe?

First, to clarify, this flat shoe style isn’t made of Marmite, that would be weird! Well maybe only a little more odd (in my opinion) than the real thing. This is a shoe style that is loved by the fashion press and the reason I’ve called it Marmite is because you’ll either love it or hate it. I’m talking about mesh flats.

Mesh flats

They are beloved by celebrities and influencers and their popularity has steadily grown over the Summer.

On the positive side, they are a style that work well for this transitional/in between seasons period. Oh, and they are great if you have just forked out for a pedicure and want to show off your toes. Can you tell I’m struggling with the pros?

Practical they are not. I can’t imagine they would be robust enough for your work commute or withstand a heavy shower.

They are not on my shopping list but experience has taught me to keep an open mind. I’ve no doubt many high street brands will latch onto this trend and make a wearable version for real life. Hopefully a version that doesn’t put my wonky toes on full display!

Moving onto a flat shoes style that is far more palatable – the Mary Jane.

Mary Jane shoes

This classic shoe style is making a comeback and is going to be huge for Autumn.

Mary Janes are practical, stylish and can be worn with trousers, skirts and dresses. Just ensure you get the proportions right for the latter. They make a nice change from trainers when the weather is rubbish ( so most days) and the other bonus is they hide your toes! I’m definitely putting these on my shopping list.

Here are 3 of my favourite Mary Janes across the price points:-

Studded Mary Janes
Uma Black patent Mary Janes
