The Summer skirt style making a comeback

The Summer skirt style making a comeback

Are you ‘trendy’ and being ‘modern’?

‘I don’t like trends!” said a lady at a recent event I hosted. When I explained that my clients don’t want to dress head to toe in the latest trends either and that they like outfits that feel modern and current, you could see the relief on her face.

The difference between ‘trendy’ and ‘modern’?

The saying “if you’re not moving forward, you’re moving backwards” very much applies to your style. If you haven’t updated your wardrobe for a while then you and your outfits will look dated.

On the other hand, you don’t have to jump on every new trend that appears. Mesh shoes, case in point – or no point as far as I’m concerned! They are all over Instagram and on the high street but they’ll never work for my lifestyle – or toes!

The key is to find the pieces that work for YOUR personal style, figure and lifestyle. They may well be on trend but it doesn’t matter as long as they are right for you.

To illustrate my point, let’s look at a big trend this season – skirts. If you are still wearing your boho maxi from the 90s you won’t look up-to-date. You don’t, however, have to jump on the trend of a metallic silver maxi (according to Vogue) if it’s not for you.

A good way to ensure you are not buying a trend you’ll seldom wear is to ask yourself three questions when you feel the impulse to buy:-

  1. Does it suit my figure?
  2. Where will I wear it?
  3. What will I wear it with?

If you are unable to answer these questions positively then put the garment back on the rail.

My job is to find modern pieces that work for my clients personal style today but also stand the test of time. A metallic maxi won’t be for everyone but there are skirt trends around such as a cotton ‘A’ line midi that are more wearable and timeless.

I love this style because it is such an easy to wear versatile garment that flatters most figures. It will keep you cool in hot weather and always looks smart. This skirts style will always be a useful and stylish wardrobe option whether it is on trend or not – I’ve had the one I’m wearing in this picture for a few years now.

Here are 3 of my favourites currently available on the high street.
